I’m having this issue. Took my RFSV to a reputable Land Rover mechanic in Brisbane to get the transfer case gears swapped for the 0.996. As soon as I picked it up it started jumping out of high range. I took it back to them, they told me maybe the dog teeth need to settle in or something, said I should use an occy strap to hold it in high range for a few months to see if that fixes it. Does this seem reasonable, or should I go back and make sure they sort it out?

Take it back. It should not jump out of gear. There is something not right. Did they use new gears when they replaced them? It is caused by one or more of a few things, linkages hitting on either the seatbox or the insulation under the gearstick rubber, the intermediate shaft bolt not torqued to specification, incorrect preload on the bearings, selector fork adjustment and worn dog teeth on the high range or selector gear.

I supplied the gears, they were brand new. So if they didn’t fit it correctly it’s their mistake and I should expect them to not charge me to fix it , is this a not unreasonable assumption?

future reference find out where austral send there gearboxes to because most of the dealerships send out to a third party for specialist repairs. Downtown toyota were sending their gearboxes out to a place  in Logan (queenst St next door to the vetrans motorcycle club at logan or altnernatively try a company called Trade motors they were a contractor at Veh coy banyo .
