101s with radio fitted
« on: August 31, 2020, 06:58:30 PM »
On the REMLR site, there is a photograph of a 30-239 in service with an aerial mount bolted on the side.

Looking at my 101, there are bolt holes that suggest it had an aerial mounted to it in the same position.

A question for those with Australian delivered 101s that served in the ADF, did your 101s have bolt holes for a sugar scoup?

A further question, does anyone have photographs of the radio setup in an Australian 101?

Some pics I have collected - not sure how original.

Thanks for that, Garry.

Now, a question for the radio people, what type of radio is that?

I think the images show:

Upper shelf: Looks like an AN/GRC-160 or an AN/GRC-125 - essentially the same, difference was the RT-841/PRC-77 or the RT505/PRC-25 set clipped into the OA-3633/GRC mount.

Lower shelf nearer to camera: AN/VRC-46: an RT524 on an MT-1029 mount.

Antenna in first image appears to be an AS-1729/VRC, consisting of an MX-707/VRC matching unit, AS-1730 lower antenna element and AT-1095/VRC upper section.

Thanks, Mike.
That means I am collecting the correct radio.

I'll have to do an audit of what I have collected so far.
