New to the forum and happy to be aboard
« on: February 13, 2021, 02:17:23 PM »
Hi everyone,

I've just signed onto the forum following some great advice from a good friend who recently helped me with the purchase of my Perentie GS w/Winch - ARN 50 034.

First things first, 50 034 is a May 1990 build GS w/Winch which spent most of it's time in Western Australia.   Flicking through the GM 120, it has been maintained by Perth Logistics Battalion, Tech Support Troop SASR and Joint Logistics Unit - West.

It entered service on 26 June 1990 and the last maintenance entry in the GM 120 is dated 22 December 2016 with an accumulated 689 workshop hours completed over it's service life.

I believe is was initially registered in WA in 2017, and it has sadly has had the rear helicopter lift points removed but is otherwise pretty much unmolested.

I purchased it from a seller in NSW, who still had it registered in WA and I am now in the process of undertaking some repair work for it's roadworthy and registration in
Victoria.

As for me, I'm recently retired and wanted a vehicle to go bush in with my son.  Back in the late 70s through to the early 90s I served in the Regular Army and I guess my hankering for an ex-service Land Rover is as a result of a bit of nostalgia and foolishly wanting to revisit my youth (if that is at all possible  ;D).

I think this forum is a terrific resource and I know I'll be spending endless hours pouring over all the info and maybe leaning on the experience of others.

Many thanks

'Acorn'

Many thanks for the warm welcome Dozer.  Sincerely appreciate it.

With a handle like Dozer, I wonder if you might be an old RAE ‘Plantie’?

Kind regards

Welcome Acorn,

There are a few ex and current ADF members amongst us and probably own ex army Land Rovers for the same reasons you mentioned.

There is plenty of knowledge and a team of great blokes here all willing to help.

all the best ,

Mick

Many thanks for the warm welcome Mick,

I’m happy to be here.

I see you’re in Melbourne too.  Is there a local group that ever get together with their mil vehicles?

Kind regards

‘Acorn’

Hi Acorn,

I`m a member of the Victorian Military Vehicle Corps (VMVC) , I attned their events and meetings and amongst them are a group of Land Rover nuts who all own a few LR variants.

The VMVC is a well run club and would be a place to start, there are a number of members who own 110`s including myself. They also conduct some trips up into the high country, etc.

Cheers,

Mick

To add to what Mick said, there are a number of other clubs and organisations that run events that a lot of people turn up to no matter what club they belong to, if any.
The annual Corowa event  is one example. Dookie is another.
Generally we're a friendly lot that love sharing the passion.

Many thanks @Mick_Marsh.

I’m looking forward to the opportunity to meet up with some local members.  I’m so pleased to have been introduced to this forum.

Over the past month I’ve learnt heaps from reading the posts and experience of it’s members.  👍

Kind regards

Acorn
