Radios in FFR Perentie

Hi all

Here is couple of pic of the radios set up in 49154 as was original in the  Perenties , a GRC 106 and a PRC 77 , boths In working order

Good photos. Looks like you are using the sets: if you are you may wish to read this article which shows that the GRC-106 when tuned as per the manual could be losing 80% of its radiated power when operating on 40metres! Thanks you very much Kman for the link , I have some low signal reports when I was having some contacts during
The jamboree but I attribute that to the atmosferic condition as I was in the 20 meters band and in contact with New Zealand , I will go to the cataract scout park again soon to perform some maintenance in the equipment and aerials and I will tray again with the new info I got from the link , thanks you again , the PRC 77 work very well without any dramas

Lucipia I run a PRC77 on an AM2060 in my S2A FFT which I can swap with the RT524 in my MUTT. A couple of mates are running PRC77 in their Perentie FFRs but have boosted the output by using a Clansman RF amplifier for the 351. It is a fairly cheap unit that easily connects and can be mounted on top of the AM2060.

There is a PRC-25/PRC-77specific  linear amplifier, its called the AM-4477 Range Booster its a similar form factor as the PRC-77 but half height.

You can see mine sitting on top of one of my PRC-77 in my SIII FFR but they were never used in Australia.

I currently have two, a III FFR and a Perentie 4x4 FFR but I also have a SADF Radio Relay SIIB however its been converted to a camper so unlikely to get  the original green radios.

The SIII FFR has a 524 and two 77s (GRC-160)  and an F3, but I'm going to remove one 77 and install a second F3 and set them up in re-trans (it must have had two HF sets in service as it has the holes for two of the HF antenna brackets.

The Perentie will initially have a 106 and 160 on two tables, but I may add another 160 if I can find another am-2060.

The SADF RR will probably only be fitted with a Thomson TRC 300-4 HF set, but it may also get a civilian Codan 9323 and 9360 HF

I also have the dexion and Clansman PRC-352 and PRC-320 for a British army FFT, but the vehicle went to scrap before I could pick it up.

No Idea what I will do with the Larkspur C42 set and tables.

Good setup! Do you have a sigs background? Display any unit signs on the vehicles?

Quite a catch having the F3s. I have had my eye out for one for years but they very rarely appear and if they do are out of my budget!

I have an FFR but I don't even have AM. All this jargon over my head. Is there a book or webpage, or even a homevideo explaining whats what?
Maybe a video ofvthe sets operating RX TX would be a great benefit ... but it would probably spur parts prices even higher...

Maybe we should post a sticky on the equipment and options for FFT/FFW/FFR. I am happy to start one but it will have to be late this week or next before I have the time.

I envisage a description of the various radio's features, what components are required to set them up in a vehicle and some comments on the radio. complement at various FF vintages.

Is there interest in this?

I have not been having a lot of luck finding much info on the correct radio install kit for my 1970 FFT.

I know it had the larkspur table across the tub, but details of the battery frame are a bit scarce.

There is heaps of info for fitting the Larkspur kit to the earlier FFW / FFT vehicles, but I haven't found much on fitting the American gear into the series 2A.

Anything I do find, I will definitely post .

You'll have more trouble finding the actual batteries.  The battery frame and charging system were the same as used in the Larkspur, so essentially the MT-1029 mount etc. was connected to the Larkspur batteries.



This image from the REMLR website ( http://remlr.com/radios.html ) is one of the better images of the batteries/battery frame.  Basically they were about 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" angle iron slides to support the long sides of each battery with angled hold downs.

I can take an image of the removable frame I have in the garage which will be similar to the frame mounted to the floor of the Land Rover tub.
