Title: steering clunk
Post by: madtuna on March 09, 2019, 02:55:24 PM
Hi folks,
have developed an audible and feelable clunk which appears to be coming from in the steering collumn where it goes through the dash or at least that's where it sounds and feels like it is.
Everything under the bonnet side appears okay.

It appears to be only at one point when turning and again at the same point when turning back. Sorry if my description is a bit vague.

Has anyone else experianced this, is it a common part that wears or a bearing in the collumn etc?

Any hints and fixes would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Steve

Actually, think I have found the problem. Top uni joint loose on the spline and has a bit of play.
Will replace.

If it is loose on the spline it might just need tightening up Steve. There is a pinch bolt on it.

Thanks mate.  Did that and reduced the clunk but there's probably a bit more play in the uni joint than should be there, maybe worn needle rollers.

I probably have a good used one of them in the shed if you want a second hand one. Might take a week or so to get there.
