They turned out pretty hopeless.They were designed around super single tyres to give the necessary flotation on the front axle,then at the last minute were put on 12.00s as a cost cutting measure.Typical Army.The WW2 NM Macks were far better trucks with proper CV joint front axles and decent ground clearance.Regards John.

22 Macks on parade, with one LR Series 3 FFR and bicycles.

All that weight probably endangered any sewerage pipes or other plumbing under that bitumen.

The Macks have unit marking "70" on RAASC tacs (I think).. seen at Bandiana museum

Those three "bicycles" with motors  from the long shot they look similar to Honda CB 750 fours. If not what were they?  Were the motorbikes used for escort or piloting services or were they just for dispatch?

I see one round local with a vacuum tank on it.Used for sullage ,grease traps etc.I spoke to the driver/operator,and he said the steering lock is hopeless getting into yards.Its still in army colors.Southside Brisbane.Regards John.

When the army replaced the camelback with airbags,did they do all the trucks,or just some.What happened to the camelbacks,do they come with the trucks when sold?Regards John.

I found out that Mack traded in the camelbacks on fitting the airbag suspensions.Most were said to have been sold overseas.They were too light for commercial use.,and anyway the feds were offering increased weight limits for airbag conversions.
