Transfer Case Gear Knob
« on: February 28, 2017, 12:18:47 PM »
My Transfer Case gear knob is way loose. I simply pulled it of when I was messing with it last weekend. The steel lever connected to the transfer case has good threads on it. The HI/N/L know has no threads but is full of what looks like tar. Just some sticky gooey mess in there that was just kind of holding the knob onto the lever.

What do you all reckon?

Honestly buy a new one,

For the hassle of cleaning it out filling it with an epoxy resin then drilling a pilot hole then taping a new thread to fit? Easer to buy a new one for around $30 to the door…

The black stuff may be from a previous repair like a rubber sleeve jammed on? Mine were like it as well.  I did the repair. I even hand painted the white inlay.

Then I found out how cheap they are afterwards.

Wouldn’t stuff around again.

You will find the part number in the Repair Parts Scales.

Cheers Phil

This is what you need - a new rubber bush. Push it into the knob first and then push/screw it onto the thread on the lever. It will feel like new again!!
