An idea I have used. Stainess steel cable and a cheap lock.

This is definitely only a deterrent.  A set of bolt cutters would obviously defeat it.

And if you do unfortunately have your nice Land Rover branded fuel cap pinched, an Iveco one will fit. They have lockable ones as well which may need a bit of fitting.
