I did not mean any offence by my comment of WHY, and I apologies if that is how it appeared, losing your lively hood is sad and I do wish Tom and any of his employees and any future ventures all the best for the future.

I was though not entirely surprised that this enterprise did not do as well as was obviously anticipated and my comment of WHY was purely a reflection of my lack of surprise.  Again I did not mean any personnel offence.

Before anyone gets carried away with counting corpses, AWOL isn't yet a done thing. It is voluntary, not bankruptcy or receivership. There are a few things in the works as I understand it.
Tom is one of the good guys. I have personally seen the time and money spent making the vehicles viable as commercial hire vehicles with minimal irreversible mods. Remember that many of his future clients will probably join our ranks after sampling the noisy, dusty beautiful beasts.
All the best to Tom and his dedicated crew, I hope for you and your families sake that the effort hasn't been in vain.

Not a paid comment, I am not am awol employee.

True, but it is the creditors who now decide the future of the company so it depends on how they think they have the best chance of recovering the money owed them. Generally shareholders lose their investment when this happens so it never augurs well for the business.

I have this to add to the discussion from Tom's partner at AWOL Adventures.

I am very sad to say that yes AWOL has been forced into voluntary administration. This was something that we did not foresee for AWOL as the future was looking VERY bright with lots of wonderful exciting events on the horizon.

Unfortunately Tom Rayner, founder of AWOL, has hit hard times in his civil engineering firm and he was funding the start up of AWOL. His company is owed large amounts of money from outstanding creditors and hence the flow on effect of that cash flow crisis has effected AWOL. It is literally dragging AWOL down with the ship and right when AWOL was just starting to take off.

We are all devastated and madly scrambling to find an investor that may be able to provide a cash injection to separate AWOL from Tom. If you know of anyone with a passion for Perenties, hahaha ;-) who might be interested in entering the world of tourism, certainly pass on my details. We have about 5 days left to find someone!

The business is amazing, we have a fantastic marketing plan, solid business plan, financial forecasts that show a bright future, a fantastic tourism Business Development Officer who is so passionate and well connected and has provided amazing opportunities in the short time she has been on board and we have Tom Rayner - a man with an amazing vision, charisma and drive to take on the world with AWOL, quite literally! It’s heartbreaking to see his dream lost.

All the best to you and certainly do let me know if you have any contacts who may be interested ;-)

A good example of things that may appear differently to what they are. If I win Powerball Thursday, I'm investing.

I understand entrepreneurial risk, but is that a sound business model ? One business relying on another business' cash flow in order to operate ?

I wouldn't do it. In my mind it places both at risk.

I do hope it gets sorted though. Best of luck :)

Almost every business Ive worked for (except the current) has had other business's keeping it afloat, and vice versa when cash flow swaps around. Granted its only 5 out of 6.. but to me its very common.

All vehicles at Gray's yard in Brisbane.

Most modifications seem reversible.

40+, range, winch and non winch variants.

- 6x6;
- 6x6 dual cab;
- 4x4 FFR;
- 4x4 RFSV;
- 4x4 SRV;
- 4x4 hard-top personnel TD5;
- 4x4 hard-top;
- Cantor (ex ambo??, internal conversion);
- trailers;
- civilian camper trailer;
- civvy Isuzu NPR;
- civvy Coaster.

Some on-roaded, some wrecks, some in-progress.

Bidding reportedly 25th May.

All vehicles in absolute disrepair and not even worth looking at wink-winkedy-wink. Also most fitted with the unreliable (wink wink) 4BD1.

You should.

Interesting there is a SRV in that lot. I didn't notice any SRVs go through the auctions.

Gah this makes me mad to see!!!  >:( I wish they would put the Windows back in the GS's and roll the sides down! They have shown very little care  :'( We had all the windows out for a big event a few days before they shut us down. They initially took the vehicles and left the Windows behind until we jumped up n down about it. They are all paired together and labelled for their corresponding vehicles. I do hope they get reunited.
All the AWOL vehicles have been well loved with a team of great mechanics attending to them. Don't listen to eyes I think he has ulterior motives hehe  ;)  ;)
Most modifications are cosmetic only. You'll find good radios in some and also fire extinguishers too. A big centre console was designed and added, easily bolts out but makes a great esky with the addition of a bag of ice  ;)
There have been 16 FFR AND RFSV's converted to campers with flyscreen enclosure, hydraulic lift bed platform with storage underneath - these are awesome and some still have all the camping gear in them!  :-\
Yes there are 2 SRV's . Esperance Elle 203004 is the better of the 2 (not just because she's named after me ;D )
Most are in really good nic but ask me any questions if you like and I'll try to help.
The TD5 Hardtop has a pretty major problem (undriveable) that we still had not gotten to the bottom of when they shut us down. It had sucked quite a bit of time and money - purchased privately from a guy in Sydney. Seriously, I'd steer clear of it!
Have fun shopping guys, there are some great vehicles in there that we loved dearly  :'(
Oh one last thing - Grays also left behind all the original service records  :-\ we are trying to get them to see the importance of them but if they don't take them I will be able to help you out there as well. The administrator had put them in the rubbish pile!!!  >:(
