Newbie / TAC Plates
« on: May 23, 2022, 07:01:37 PM »
HI All, recently acquired FFR 50-146 ..  and whilst she has had a facelift I am looking to identify what her TAC plates would have been. She was attached to the 8th Signals in Canberra and more specifically in the later years the 143rd Sig Sqn. Any assistance / history appreciated

Regards Taffty

Taffy,

The unit tac sign for 8 Sig Regt and 143 Sig Sqn (which is part of 8 Sig) is a red '40' on a white over blue background. Attached is a poor picture of 40, plus a similar one for 103 Sig Sqn, which will give you a better idea of what 40 should look like.

It also had a Formation tac sign for 2 Div - also attached.

Cheers.

Here's a pic of an original 8 Sig Regt tac sign used for off road navigation to the units location - note the direction arrow. It was used like a street sign.

I don't think it would have been used on a vehicle though. Typically, the low visibility vehicle tac sign was a white number on a black background.

Cheers.
