How accurate are Mk3 temp guages?

When driving my Mk3 I notice the temp guage is almost off the scale.

How accurate are they with the 282 Inter engines?

Mine has a 6BB1 Isuzu and I'm thinking it may be an incompatibility between the Isuzu sender and the Inter/VDO guage.

Normally the temp gauges are accurate, if the needle was pointing to hot, you would certainly know the engine was overheating, I would guess that the gauge and sender are incompatible.

I might see if I can adapt the Inter sender into the Isuzu engine.  Not worth the effort if the Inter ones were unreliable originally.

I only have a photocopy of the Mk3 RPS and the begining of each column is missing, so I'm unable to identify the part index numbers of the instruments and transmitters.

I have some numbers that perhaps someone can clue me in:  The first few are International Harvester Corp numbers.
IHC-143241R91 DSN 6620-66-011-5753 something temperature.
IHC-186463R91 DSN 6685-66-011-5741 something mperature, electrical resistance

In the Mk4 RPS I have found
VDO Aust-CAS375 DSN 6685-66-025-0190 Transmitter, Temperature, Electrical Resistance

Would it be safe to assume IHC-186463R91 is the Transmitter, Temperature, Electrical Resistance?

Or

Would it be better to use the VDO transmitter for the different guage on the Mk4?

143241R91 is Sender Unit Temperature 186463R91 is Indicator Temperature, Electrical resistance ( in other words the gauge unit) Another IHC sender that works with this instrument cluster is 883695R91 The VDO sender may or may not work with the Mk3 gauge, I'd go for the Inter ones they are a known quantity.

I'll see if I can track down one of the Inter numbered parts.

I put the number into Google and got a NOS one out of the US.  They were a common part in lots of Inters, including the Scout traveller and some of the tractors.  Only cost about $40 delivered.

Much better than taking the risk with second hand.

It just so happens I have a genuine inter NOS sender unit on the shelf..  $75 posted.. if anyone wants it drop me a message.  Cant help on a guage though, sorry

any gauge is accurate, but it needs the correct sender calibrated at the correct ohms.
