Post in here the details of any ex-military vehicle or trailer that has been wrecked, parted out etc.

We have a some, well 3 or so bits off ex-mill vehicles, mainly seat bases, which still have the nomenclature plate.  I sent a list to Richard some time ago, best I go through again and find the numbers and list again.   You never  know we may have a bit of someones pride and joy :)

Nope, 283 or some such.  May have been an old notation that had not been removed or ammended.

2 base workshop bebuild mar 73, would make it likely those vehicles are Vietnam vets,
Title: Re: The Bone Yard
Post by: Phoenix on August 19, 2013, 12:00:19 PM
First one is a vietnam vet confirmed.  108-553 Noted as SAL as well interestingly, maybe rebuilt on return to aus.

2nd one is 113-933, no confirmed vietnam service yet.

cookey who worked there at that time suggests that very few Land Rovers, other than the vehicles returned from SVN and specials like Ambulances etc ever went through a full rebuild.

Mostly if they got to the point of needing a full rebuild they had already exceeded their repair value and were disposed of through the auction system.

Just picked up a rolling chassis only (with firewall) 109 series 11a, chassis No. 25307359b, Its an ex army vehicle and plated as FFT but I can't find that number on the registry of ex military Land Rovers (or maybe I need new glasses). Unfortunately the chassis has suffered some serious damage at the front and the vehicle is VERY incomplete. I plan to repair the damage and fit the chassis under my civie 11a 109 wagon (also has a badly damaged chassis) and fit a 200tdi and 5 speed. Should make for a very useful and fun wagon.
But it would be good to know more of the history of the chassis. I have been working as a civie for defence for the last 6 years on Land Rovers and have had a really nice 11a 109 army Rover years ago.

Here is 112-791 for better of worse at Dapto Pick-a-part. This is a couple of years ago.  I got the cookie cutters and many other trophies off the old girl. Verrreee Rusteee.  Went back and it has been turned to coke cans and razor blades.  Was a good parts machine.  Not many complete S2A's at wreckers. I was surprised that it had been crushed when I went there last time.  Sad but true.

I've seen some different ways to do it - but that there is a dodgy driver footwell ventilation setup if ever I saw it - looks a tad too airy.

Interesting one this is,

Series 2a Workshop
Chassis 253216477C
contract c100900
Taken from the REMLR database

Vehicle Wrecked to rebuild 177-021, Station Wagon in 1979.
No mods noted to this vehicle. Broken up for parts in 1984?? Parts donated to 177-021 or vice versa??

Same vehicle
177-021
Series 2a Station Wagon 10 seater
Contract V13544

Late 2A. Original Chassis 26210913G. Rebuilt on chassis 25316477C Workshop truck 114-141? No BBB notes about chassis change
 AULRO GS Keeper.

There is not much left, it still has part of the station Wagon body on.   Chassis and firewall in excellent condition though

So it's in pieces being donated to other vehicles, or being rebuilt?  Just working out what to put as the current status on the database.

I think what Stephen has written is a typo error, it should probably read 'TAP' which is a brass tap on the rhs heel board (seatbox next to the handbrake) which allows the driver to take fuel from either the RHS or LHS fuel tank, these were fitted to S2A 88" & 109" military Land Rovers of the day, cheers Dennis

Not a LR but we saw this unfortunate wreck today at Rupanyup, North East of Horsham. It was right next to the first of the Silo Art Trail. :'(
