Title: Photos of Perenties In Service
Post by: Dervish on January 19, 2014, 11:29:05 AM
In an effort to assist all Perentie owners in finding out about their vehicle during it's life in the ADF, I propose that we start up a thread showing these old tractors during service. Obviously photos already up on REMLR don't really need to be put here again  ;) The hope is that this will last as a kind of museum to the service life of the Perentie; maybe the first private owners of the vehicles won't care about it's former life - but chances are someone eventually will!

Format is something along these lines of:

Comment: The river bed at Moolooo Downs proves to be softer than expected when the land rover was bogged during a treck across the terrain. The Australian Army Band Perth (AAAB-P), in conjunction with the Joint Logistics Unit-West (JLU-W) conducted Exercise GASCOYNE ASSIST over the period 17-25 July 2011. The activity involved the provision of assistance involving flood recovery operations personnel in the Gascoyne Region with a focus on MOOLOO Downs. The assistance provided by both Navy and Army consisted of fence construction, cattle yard construction, cleaning/removal of mud from outbuildings, general clean up and asset/material recovery from the flood plains. MOOLOO Downs was one of the worst affected stations, after the flood of December 2010, succumbing to a meter of water in all buildings, the first time the water has been recorded breaking the banks of the creek in over 100 years. MOOLOO Downs has had no government or voluntary recovery assistance to date. (Photo: Australia DoD)

Comment: A six-wheel drive Land Rover infantry mobility vehicle from the International Stabilisation Force’s Anzac Infantry Company rattles over a steel bridge on the way into the town of Emera. On board are troops from 1 Section, on their way to conduct a regional patrol in Emera. Mid Caption: In February 2011 it was the job of 1 Platoon of the International Stabilisation Force’s Anzac Infantry Company to patrol the Emera district, located to the southeast of Dili, using the ISF compound in the town of Gleno as a patrol base. The troops were tasked with conducting patrols across the district, visiting each sub-district to gauge how things are operating, such as local government, police and public services. I presume the canvas gets shredded by rotorwash? The roof mesh is in the back, as is some other payload.

SMH caption says "An INTERFET convoy passes a man on a bicycle at Dili port, East Timor, in preparation for return to Australia" "2000."

RFSV or SRV as per orig. issue,  51-759 is leading the packet.
Is this the first evidence of this variant in ET? There was Crocodile 2012, some of which ran in ET as well. Hopefully there are more photos.

Definitely original RFSV. I had heard reports that a small number of them went over. There were also SRV as well. Welby might have something to add.

I informed ReignCKD about the 51-759 pic last night. Made his day.
I found the pic looking at search returns for East Timor - I was looking for another pic of 50-169 which Stevie purchased before Christmas (his first Landy). Attached is a pic of Stevie 15 years ago in 2002 (red Tee) with his brother, and the AWM file of 50-169 in-service at Darwin, preparing to embark to East Timor Sept 1999.

Hello Dave, Happy New Year to you.

Closest i can add is the SAS 'borrowed' a few Pilbara Regiment RFSV's  in the early stages of Operations in Timor, but i can't say that they went OS.

Nothing to add other than an RFSV made its way to Bouganville that i know of, off topic i know.

Best wishes,

Welby

G'day Mate.
Happy New Year, also.

All part of the murky picture of where these beasties travelled. :)
