I actually had to run a tap through each wheel nut to cut the hardened 2 Pack paint out of the threads. That’s old paint not metal swarf coming out the bottom...

Original OX Aust 8 bottle (brake fluid) found in the cabin subframe void beside the driver's seat.

A neat relic - brings back plenty of memories - pity a rat has chewed a hole in the bottom.

I used to have some of the larger tins but they leaked.

Because of a broken rear centre bolt at some time in the truck’s past, the rear axle had twisted, bending the right hand rear main and second leaves as well as both U bolts.

I have to strip the spring pack down, attempt to reset it, reassemble with new centre bolt and two new U bolts...

I found that by placing individual spring leaves in a ten ton press and topping up the pressure twice a day for about 3 days it was possible to restore the original arch.

Happy to be able to save original parts whenever possible. Just needs a cleanup, new centre bolt and reassembly with some new spring clip sleeves which I will make.

Salvaged a bonnet, winch front fairlead rollers, a complete muffler and pipes, a seat frame and a host of other sheet metal parts which are undergoing phisphoric acid rust conversion and will be incorporated into the Mk4 refurbishment.

The donor vehicle, a 6x6, was destroyed in the bushfires earlier this year. None of the mechanical parts were useable unfortunately

Some more panel salvage on this sunny remembeance day.

It’s the first time in many years I have not been involved in any remembrance say cereminy due to Covid and not being in the best of health.

I made up for it with some easy priming with a roller and brush  in the back yard. Need a fairly thick coat of rust primer before respray...
