1963 2a markings on grille?
« on: May 02, 2018, 03:43:21 PM »
Can anyone tell me when the plates fixed in place of (or on top of) the grille badge were in use, and is there a key to what they signify?. Was this something only done in Vietnam?.

Thanks,

Matt.

I guess I should have read the pinned post at the top of this section by Zulu Delta 534 ::)

I'm still not entirely clear when these plates were in use, only in Vietnam or at home in Australia as well??.

Just uncovered this on my 63 2a.

These plates were quite common around Liverpool Area during my time at Ingleburn 70/71. I think that it was mainly Infantry and Artillery that used them to identify to which sub unit they belonged. I can't tell you what yours means however as I was in RAASC which did not normally use them.

Hi all,

I agree with Booger , in this case it might mean the 3rd vehicle in Signals Platoon Support Company ?

These days most of these vehicle markings are on the door . Arty possibly being the exception.

Cheers,

Mick

Thank you all for the info!.

Unfortunately there are no traces of other markings, although I haven't rubbed the whole vehicle down.

Actually I'm lying, I just remembered the weight classification on the nearside rear survives, it looks like it was covered by a plate at some time which protected it from later spray jobs.
