Life In The Slow Lane

Before settling in "for the duration" at a city High School, and getting caught up in urban life, I lived in several towns around rural N.S.W.. There is a nostalgia and a peaceful appeal about most country towns... in the Hunter Valley we have some great towns, all having the Hunter features in common, overlayed with something "stand out" or unique.

The Land-Rovers I remember in the towns of my youth didn't come out of one of those flashy new dealerships with waxed floors, muzak and suits. They came from dusty garages that also sold tractors and irrigation gear. They were full of character like the vehicles themselves.

The photos below are of Modern Motors Dungog, a mixed Land-Rover/agricultural mechanical and spares business. There must be a lot of yarns about each of these retired Landys sitting in their yards... Of course they sell all the new models... and with those V8's and coils... you can now drive in the fast lane.
