Around the time that Land Rover Australia Produced the TD5 hardtop vehicles for the Australian Army, they also produced a Defender 130 General Maintenance Vehicle, or GMV. This had a lightweight workshop body fitted and the idea was to produce a General Maintenance Vehicle for reserve units that did not need the full size Perentie 6x6 GMV that is currently being used by the Australian Army. This would have the effect of freeing up the 6x6 units for use on a deployment. Whilst the gross vehicle weight of the 130 GMV was less than the 6x6 GMV, the lightweight body on the 130 meant that the payload was on par with it's bigger 6x6 brother. Unfortunately nothing came of the exercise and the vehicle was disposed of through auction. Beyond that we do not know what happened to the vehicle as it was never road registered by Land Rover Australia.
