112 829??

Whilst looking back through my slide collection yesterday I found this one taken in mid 67 or so of a hard top taken outside the "Dentists surgery" at Vung Tau.
Someone with younger eyes than mine may be able to distinguish the number better than I  but I think it is 112 829.

In the early stages in 1966 the Dental unit, and the Mil Hospital at the time, were housed under canvas and it wasn't until about six months later that some of these Kingstrand or Lysaght buildings begin to show up. Obviously the Hospital and Dental unit would have been right up there in priorities, along with the Officer's mess,   but our mess hut and Canteen buildings were being replaced just before we were due to leave to come home in April 67, about the same time or just before the barrack blocks were under construction.

I find this early use of containerisation of interest considering the date.

I had a look with a magnifier and tried using layers to dark the plate etc. Could be 112829 or 825. I note it has the 1ALSG tac and yellow painted eyelids on the headlights.

In the list of AWM Vietnam docs I have mentions of 112825 and 112827 as census 6022 (panel vans) so it all fits nicely according to the docs.

I think it looks like a 9, but then it's hard to say.  any chance of scanning it in at a higher resolution?  Although it may be too much out of focus to make much difference.  I've put the info as 9 at this stage.

It also looks as though its hot. I have been at Roberston and Larrakeyah when the sun was out and its hot up there and you have to obey OHS and wear full uniform; the digger could be on report (gosh horror) for that nowadays.
Looking at the Landy, its rear windows, tailgate and tailgate top all appear to be removed due to heat as well.

I remember the poolside temp at Larrakeyah was 48 and someone said it was not working, but thru the window of the lifeguard office we could see the temps were being charted on the wall and they were all around mid 40s.

would this have been a rare one over there, with most of the others having doors taken of etc?

Another question, it may have been asked in the past, did any hard top workshops go over to Vietnam.

The carryall is rare on the whole, and even rarer in SVN.

Most of the major hard top workshops we know about are post vietnam conversions to my knowledge.  They were fairly new at the time remember.  That said, I am not the expert on the issue either.
