I captured these few pages just before the end (11/12 minute mark) of auction #3. Not sure if they went higher in price but it will give a good idea of the prices the Land Rovers attracted.
Sorry to disappoint, but, those were the current bids before the real bidders got started.
The two top 6x6's got around $20k plus other charges.

Who are the buyers

I have inspected vehicles at two auctions and bid without success as I felt the price + 16% + Stamp Duty+ Full rego is adding $4000 to the listed hammer fall of most Landrovers. Chatting to people at the auctions I met farmers who felt buying 4 of 5 landrovers was good value as it was equal to the cost of a new cruiser trayback. I have met families thinking that these will be a good family holiday car, these people will probally have them back on the market after a few trips as they realize that the comfort level and security level of these vehicles is very limited. In the trucks I have met small transport companies seeking workhorses, most of the MOGs have very low mileage but most are rusted badly in the turrets and gutters from sitting outside for 25 years.

I have not yet met any collectors like me? I estimate that there are probably 1000 collectors on the eastern seaboard from the bottom of Vic to the tip of Qld. Not all of these have an interest in landrovers.

I am hoping that after a few more auctions demand will drop and prices will become more realistic? hears hoping anyway

Why?

The info isn't accurate. I forgot about the bidding war at the end of the auction :(

Hi there all

Well its official I have bought and paid for 48 005, and driving it home from Brisbane Saturday morning:

Quote
48-005. Currently configured as a soft top, but it is actually Initial Production vehicle 5, which was built, and is still plated as, a Command Post FFR.  Only 2 were built, This one went to the army, the other still in private hands, and I believe belongs to black Bill ?

Would be a good one to have as 1 of 2 of a kind.

All the best

Gray's are sending out the following e-mail:

"Dear Xxxxxx,

Congratulations on your recently purchased  XXXXXXXXX  from GraysOnline as part of their Defence force sale. We would love to hear what you are doing with your new wheels. Was it for business or pleasure? Grays have similar items to what you won coming up for auction in late June and Sunrise (Channel 7) would like to do a story on these, especially what past winners think and how they are using it. Would you be interested in telling us your story?

 •  Are you a weekend warrior? Did you buy it just for fun?
 •  Did you buy it for your business?
 •  Is it being used on your farm?
 •  If it was a camouflaged vehicle, did you repaint it?

We appreciate everyone’s time is valuable, so Grays are happy to offer you a gift voucher in exchange for your story.

If you would be interested in sharing your story, and getting your 15 minutes of fame, please call me on 0448 097 058 or reply to therese.tarlinton@grays.com.au

 Kind regards
 Therese"
