178-665 Mk4 now in preservation
« on: December 19, 2019, 08:33:35 PM »
Hello all, I've been absent from REMLR for a very lng time, but still busy collecting and preserving.

A few months ago I was lucky enough to purchase a reasonable running No1 Mk4 locally and have begun preservation.

I plan to tidy this one up and use it as a firewood truck and bulk water tanker on my small property so it will have a fairly easygoing retirement.

Cheers

'Good to see another one has survived. The Mk4 is really quite rare. It appears only 322 were made,126 in early 1968 and 196 in 1971. The total number of Mk3s was 1510. A lot of Mk4s are still around, they seem to surface on a regular basis. I wonder if you have worked out its ARN? it's good to hear it's still running. Good luck with it.

Thanks Bluebell, I wasn't aware the Mk4 was less commn. I also have a Mk3 ARN 170-295 ex South Vietnam which is undergoing a substantial restoration as well.

I have the ARN of the Mk4 written down somewhere and will post up when I find it

* (Edit - it's ARN 178-665)

Overall this truck is in quite good condition having been a farm vehicle at Newnes in the Wolgan Valley then the PO began a little light preservation work.

I am assured it runs perfectly and apart from the usual braking system faults, it drives well.

Rear hub sorting as previous owner had applied 2 pac paint layers over threads, wheel nuts, brake linings and even inside brake drum so a lot of cleaning up needed...
