1200R20 Tyres
« on: April 04, 2019, 11:19:30 AM »
Dear Inter owners - I am seking an expression of interest from REMLR members and pther Inter owners for them to indicate if they would be onterested in new tyres 1200R20 either bar tread or a good offroad pattern.  I have a contact who is a manufacturer and I will get prices and pictures to test the depth of interest.  These guys also make run flat tyres and I will post details of these as well for the ferret and Alvis family owners.  If the offer and orders stack up I am happy to take things to the next step.  In this way a cooperative purchase of bulk tyres may provide significant savings for all.  I have tried to get tyres at reasonable prices and I am not having much luck.

Happy to get your feedback and ideas folks

I'm definitely interested.
I have the PC50 tires on mine at present, and they are suitable for what I intend to use the truck for, and look somewhat genuine.
I received 3 really good condition ones when I got the truck, 2 of which will co on the front, and I picked up 6 tyres from down near Hobart, but they are only fair to rough.
Not sure if they would be good enough to pass a roadworthy, as they have fairly deep tread, but were off a cross-country drilling rig and have lots of stone cuts and chunks out of the treads.
Freight might be an issue to Tasmania, but I'll worry about that later.
Greg.

When I was still working ,I used to notice an industrial tyre business we used for on road callouts, would sometimes have good lookin 12.00x20 s,and I asked the fitter,he said they came off import forklifts, and were replaced with the flat tread slicks used on concrete....This was 10 years ago.............at the time we were always chasing used 14.00x20 s for the cranes, and 12.00s were too skinny..............I also have about 10 ex army radials I bought at auction, saving them for a project...... Im getting a bit old for heavy stuff, but who knows.

Thanks John and Murray - each time I am getting closer to the minimum shipment size - keeps costs down and makes things worthwhile.  I will advise further - STDDIVER     wait out

G'day STDDIVER,

Did you end up ordering any of these tyres, or still a work in progress?

I would be interested in 5 - subject to price.

Gidday - 4X419 - simple answer is I can get a very similar military pattern 18 ply new tyres from China for between A$120 to A$140 each plus freight.  The only problem is I need 37 other people to commit to buy them to justify the container load.  Time to manufacture is 10 days and they are shipped within 14 days, sea freight to Aus is about a month.  Duty, tax etc not included.  Could be done but I am a bit short on funding the entire project to have a lot of tyres uncommitted.  It is a trust thing in that it is hard to ask people to commit in advance and to work through the transport costs and duty.   Still,  I haven't given up hope as I am looking at working with a mate to get a mixed load of other tyres to share the burden.  Watch this space, ... ... ... ... ...

Keep Coviding on!    STDDIVER

I'm definitely interested in 7.
Just let me know when you are ready and I will transfer you the cash.
It's likely to cost me more to get them to Tassy than the purchase cost. Maybe a ute trip to the mainland will be in the works. :)

Greg.

Thanks Greg - will let you know - My company may be doing some work in the Apple isle, so I might be able to bring them across - but depends on timing, still anything is possible.  There is no such thing as a silly question and 4X4-581 yours is a perfectly good one.  The simple answer is the tyres are manufactured to the US DOT standards and are the same as delivered to the USA and other places including Australia and world wide and even come with a 12 month warranty, but I don't know how easy it would be to claim if something went wrong.  A dealer in Melbourne has been importing common sizes for years, just not our size unfortunately!
