fitting adwest 4 bolt steering box perentie ffr

Hi I am struggling to to get box in position. I have tried from above and below there doesn't seem room to work it into place.

Any tips. Would releasing engine mounts and jacking engine help?

Any one have a magic wand?

G'day Steve, It's a long time since I did that install but yes I seem to remember releasing both engine mounts and jacking the front of the engine up made it go in easier.

Thanks. I managed to get the box and everything fitted this afternoon. Will fill and test tomorrow afternoon. I removed 3 nuts (1 on front drivers side is captive) and 4 bolts from engine mounts and lifted engine with trolley jack. Lifting engine clear of mounts about 75 mm made the job easy. I used a Tommy Bar to guide engine into the right place so that I could return bolts into place.

I'm replacing the box in  48-894 and can't get the old one out!!

After discovering that the steering protector had to come off....that meant that the fairlead plate had to come off...then that the motor mounts had to be released and the engine raised a bit, the old box came out the bottom with the appropriate vocabulary.

I'll be dipped if the replacement (new) box would fit back up that way though!

After removal of the PS reservoir, the new box fitted down from the top.

Yes, I'm pretty sure that the removal / replacement would have been easier if the PS pump hadn't been in the way.

No, I don't know who fitted it...it came to me that way.
