Hello Ross, the 6x6 is more capable than it looks I have taken a few different vehicles through the deserts in oz and the 6x6 compares very well with them, the small issues would be physical dimensions, weight and probably the biggest would be turning circle. It didn't get stuck on any dunes that the 4x4s didn't. The up side was having the luxury of not having to set up or down a camp and the capacity of carrying 150L of water      and 370L of fuel. Since I spoke to you last I removed my dust collector which I think has made a difference be it small to my egt's. In the last week I have refitted the std non wastegated garrett which combined with the 3" exhaust, intercooler and injector pump tuning it's not bad ( which was the setup for the simpson/ madagan trip).  Sorry about the limited photos I am more into taking landscapes. Thanks Dave.

Great pics and good to see the 6 x 6 init's element.

In 2014 we took a 6 x 6, 2 110's and a 130 cross country (west/east) in the Simpson., which took in Geo Surveys Hill and the Geo centre. 7 days with no tracks  and the sixbee acquitted itself with aplomb. There was nowhere the smaller vehicles went that it couldn't.

Dave you mentioned the camper walls were a composite for making signs or something. Can you recall where it was purchased and costs? Does it come as sq metres or what?

Ross its called 'sign board' it was from the local hardware store and comes in sheets of 2.4 x 1.2 x 3mm or 3m x 1.5m x4mm the 3mm sheet was $75 and the 4mm sheet was about $170 (5 years ago) and also different colors at extra cost to white. You can't bend it but you can also get different edge strips, joiner, '90' and std edge cap.

Dave, top stuff.  Really would like to know more about your setup. I can't wait to get back into the desert country it's been too long.
Cheers Rob

I see in these desert pics that you ran the original crossplys and tubes. You mentioned at the Canberra Coffee & Chat that you had punctures and switched to the radials. see pics http://remlr.com/forum/index.php?topic=5939.0

You may have answered the question before, but where's the spare tyre stashed?

Ross the cross plies were the std issue, I use them on the property where there is a lot of sand stone at low pressures and are impressive, I tried them on one trip with less success (many punctures on secondary rds) and a little aggressive in sand, unless you are happy to run lower pressures on main roads as well, although they will drive you deaf. The M/S 14ply radials I have been using for last few years (on advice from a local in the gulf)  I cannot fault. The spare is std mount under the rear (but forever tempted to put a large aux fuel tank there). Dave.

Thx for the extra detail pics. I spoke with another 6x6 camper at Majura. Its the one with the intermediate axle removed, just finished the registration dramas for the ACT. He gave a demo of his chinese diesel heater and the full size shower cubicle too. It had a caravan feel overall. Your advantage over that approach is less weight = less rego cost and fuel upkeep.

Are you leaving soon for another trip out west or anything?
