CDL indication
« on: October 12, 2018, 03:32:07 PM »
I’m not getting indication on my dash when the CDL is engaged. I’ve tested the globe and it’s fine. I can’t find where the sensor is on the centre diff. Can someone point me in the right direction?

I’ve got the centre console panel out but the only wires I can see are in front of the transmission shifter. Those connectors are been pretty rough shape - is that it??

Just next to the front driveshaft output flange on the Transfer Case.

That's the Reverse Switch.

When I go onto dirt from the bitumen and pull out the CDL switch the CDL engages and the orange light illuminates after a few seconds, but when returning to bitumen and pushing in the switch to dis-engage CDL, its a worry because the orange light takes about 2 minutes to turn off. This is normal for me - is it normal for others?

Hi Ross, the CDL can stay engaged - it's not unusual.

Even though you have pushed the button in, while the light remains on it hasn't fully disengaged due to the gear mesh tension holding it in place (wind-up).

To disengage after you push the button in, just set the steering straight ahead and drive slowly a short distance in reverse and forward (if necessary) to release any wind-up.

When the light extinguishes you have fully disengaged the diff lock.

Got back under it today, the diagram made it very easy to locate. The conductor is missing from one of the post - not the post that goes to earth - the other one. I don’t even see a conductor hangin about under there. I’ll have another look tomorrow but I may need to run a new one.

Does the conductor from the transfer case go straight into the indicator? I’m going to ring out the circuit tomorrow as well to see which conductor comes off the CDL globe.

Sounds like you need a new switch - RTC4512 is the part number.
