I would love the taller ratios on the bitumen, what diff centers are compatible with the 6x6 front diff.

It's been covered before in a few different threads:

http://remlr.com/forum/index.php?topic=1260.msg12130#msg12130 , and

http://remlr.com/forum/index.php?topic=3607.msg35190#msg35190

Basically, you will need to change over the diff centres from those used with a 4.7 ring and pinion to ones with dimensions suited to 3.54 gears. And do all 3 diffs.

As a 6x6 owner, you're already splashing cash around like there's no tomorrow, and it's just as bad when considering lockers. You always have to spend more than a 4x4 owner.

As said the majority of 6x6's already have the highest transfer ratio available (0.996) only the LRPV has a different one and is the same as the RFSV. Diff ratios available include 4.7, 4.11 and 3.54. I have opted to go the 3.54 as they were readily available to me and so far am pretty happy with them - only downside is I am getting slightly higher egt's and have to back off on some long steep climbs and am looking at intercooling to overcome this. I was considering going 4.11 but decided to go 3.54 and can then change the transfer gearing to the 1.123 RFSV/LRPV gearing if I want to but haven't decided to go this way as of yet. I do have some 4.11 gears for sale if anyone is looking for some including a MD reverse cut front one and 1 Salisbury one.

I am interested in what 3.54 diff center is compatible with the 6x6 front diff.

Any front rover type diff with fine splines. D1, RRC etc. Good time to fit an ATB like a trutrac or Ashcroft type.

Thanks, my understanding was that the rover diff was not as strong as the salisbury or the front 6x6 diff.

The 6x6 front diff IS a "Rover" diff. The housing is cast instead of the fabricated design usually seen, and the centre has 4 pinions instead of the usual 2 pinion, but these are just "beef up" options for the Rover unit. In all other respects it is a Rover diff.

If you want to change the front diff ratio to 3.54 and keep it the same design as now, you will have to source a 4 pinion 3.54 centre from a 4x4 RFSV or Survey to get the right offset for the 3.54 gears (but a 2 pinion centre from a 4x4, or Disco, RRC, etc will fit too) . Failing that, any of the replacement centres for traction aids for a Rover diff will work, ie Ashcroft ATB or Air Locker, Detroit Truetrac, ARB Air Locker.

Thanks for that information, I will ponder now if it is worth the hassle.

What gunner said. The rear diff from a P38 is a 4 pinion fine spline which will also fit if you machine a bit off the crownwheel carrier where the crownwheel sits ( the lip is too wide)
