Door top bolts?
«
on:
March 17, 2016, 12:00:23 PM »
Anyone got a source for the bolts that hold the door tops/window frames onto the door on a Perentie/Siii?
Mine are rusted to buggery and after fixing up the doors I really don't want to re-use the old bolts.

Was it your door frames that were rusted out?

No the frames themselves were salvageable.

Are they bolts, or studs? Any "Bearings, bolts, fasteners" type shop will have a wide range of M10 studs to choose from, you could even go Stainless if you think rust will continue to be an issue.

And while the Perentie is an M10 threaded stud (with a 16mm nut), the Series vehicles have a threaded shank as part of the window frame. Does anyone know what thread is on the Series window tops? Is it a BS thread or SAE? And the the AF size of the nut please?

These have an M8 end which screw directly into the window frame and then have an M10 shank which go through the door frame. Not the sort of thing the local fastener shop is likely to have unfortunately.
Are these the same as used on the series doors?

Could you drill and tap the M8 hole to M10?

I'm not sure there is enough material in the door tops to drill it out without compromising its structural integrity. If it comes to it id be more inclined to fabricate some new bolts out of SS rod. That's a bit of a PITA though. Surely these things can be had off the shelf somewhere?

The bolts are on feebay and at many LR Parts suppliers.
KLR have genuine Land Rover stock, made in UK, part "VYR500010" - I got a set (4 qty) at the Cooma 70th event (early April 2018) for $70.
Last week I got another genuine set from P.A. Blanchard in the UK:
4 x LR Defender Door Top Stud MTC6223 VYR500010 $40.20 plus $22.50 shipping.

Why not buy stainless steel threaded M10 rod stock, cut it to length.
Recut the thread down to M8 as required.
Cheap and forever.
