Need some information on my new trailer.
« on: September 12, 2018, 03:02:27 PM »
So I've recently acquired my third military trailer which I believe to be a 1 ton Crump & Cornish. It's in very good condition and tows like a champ. It has a complete set of lights and formation/unit markings.  I'd like to see if someone more knowledgeable out there may have a better idea of what it actually is. I'll try to supply as much information as possible and upload a couple of photos if I can get my phone to play the game.

It has no chassis/specification/id plate on it. Nor does it have any distinguishing holes left in the draw bar that might indicate that one was ever fitted. It has a full aluminium body and tailgate. It is fitted with Hella 9205 rear blackout lamps.  It has hydraulic actuated 12" diameter drum brakes with a 3 ton Lunette coupling. It also has two steady legs which fold down at the rear as well as a fold-away rear tow hitch.

Front drivers side TAC plate holder is painted with a number"11". Front passenger side TAC plate holder is painted with a number "1" above the kangaroo and crossed swords which I'm assuming would designate 1st Division. Passenger side in front of the wheel and drivers side behind the wheel holds a "5077" Christmas tree.  The passenger side behind the wheel and drivers side in front has  "H6T" painted on it which holds no real relevance to me as I've never seen that before.

The original ARN looks to be 34-595 as its written on the rear of the body in white paint pen.  This seems to put it in the realms of being a C&C trailer, however, as that ARN is missing from the list it is only an assumption.

I would like to track down the following.
1. What unit etc it was in service with.
2. If anyone has a copy of the RPS that they can email me.
3. I'd there are copies of any EMEI's that may pertain to this trailer. So I know what the mod plate marks mean.

I'll try to get some photos up to help.

Cheers
Ken

Mine is 34-597.

From what I understand , the army ledgers for these ARNs no longer exist.

G'day Ken,

The Christmas Tree number 5077 is 3 Bde HQ , the TAC number is 11 Black background with white numbers and the 1 over the Kangaroo is 1 Div .  Hot Rod sells these if your chasing them ( I'm not on commission).

The H61 is a sub unit marking.

Cheers,

Mick

@Mick_Marsh

So would I be correct in assuming that your trailer being 34-597 and mine being 34-595 that the chassis number for mine would be 2 numbers less than yours? Would you happen to have a picture of what the original spec plate looks like? I'd like to try and get a reproduction made and populate it with all the correct information as it will make life a lot easier when it comes to registration.

@Mick

I'm sorry for sounding like a noob but I'm not right up to speed with all the formation stuff. The TAC of a white 11 on a black background, is that the number for 3Bde or is it for a sub unit that is part of 3Bde? Also, from the current orbat (2018) I expected that 3Bde would be under the command of Force Command meaning it should have the crown over kangaroo and crossed swords instead of the 1Div insignia? Would I be correct in assuming that or was 3Bde under the 1Div command structure at some stage in the past?

@Anyone else

Does the RPS 02174 listed in the assets register for the website require special permission to download as there is no link I can find that will allow it to be downloaded.

Cheers all for the help so far guys. Very much appreciated.

I don't think you would be correct in that assumption.
Unfortunately, I think the data plate was the only place where that number was on the trailer.

What you could do is assume it was correct and register your trailer with that number. I'll take a photo of the data plate on the weekend.

Oh, from browsing on the internet:
https://www.army.gov.au/our-people/units/forces-command/3rd-brigade

Send a private message to the webmaster and ask if they have the RPS.

Hi Ken,
3 Brigade is one of the brigades making up the 1st Division (Formation)  , the regular Army Component of the Land Force. It still is in existence and part of the ORBAT as far as Iím aware?  Force Comd ( old Field Force Comd / Land Comd ) is the higher HQ .

The 11 is the Tac  number for 3 Bde white numerals on a black background.

I hope that is more clear ?

Cheers,
Mick
