Timing of Raven Transition
« on: July 09, 2017, 03:48:54 PM »
Would appreciate if someone can advise on the timing of the transition from the existing VHF (PRC77?) and HF (GRC 106?) in the Perentie FFR fleet to the then new Raven sets which I understand started in late 1987. Presumably all were not changed at once.
thanks,
jag

On further research I note the HF Ravens were introduced from 1987 and presumably took a few years to filter through Army, RAAF and Navy? I also not the Raven VHF was only introduced in 1994, what were they using for in vehicle and manpacks prior to that time?
thanks,

jag

Hi jag,

Prior to the introduction of the RTF-200 in 1994, the main VHF radio was the AN/PRC-77 in both manpack and vehicle roles (non armoured). Due to a general shortage in VHF radios, the AN/PRC-77 continued in use up until at least 2009 that I am aware of. The VHF fleet was also supplemented with the purchase of WAGTAIL & PINTAIL in manpack and personal roles, respectively.

Cheers.

Buckleys chance! Since the army disposed of their Larkspur and A510 war stores (brand new radios) in the 70s they have not released any of this type of kit. Occasionally you will see Raven gear pop up in the UK but that was demo stock and rarely seen now.

Have you got it working? I used a power supply from a guy in Italy to get the 90V and 7.5V from a 12V gell cell. More lately I bought a 12V converter from Banggood for a bit over $12 as I tecall and this does the 90 V just fine.

Had some crystals made for the 80 and 40 metre amateur bands but must admit I rarely use it.

Hi Kman
Yep , I have the radio working but I not use , I got the power supply probable from the same place in Italy , I got few from him for the different radios I have , I collect military radios , make them work and preserve them for future generations , from where you got the other  ?  , from Italy are very expensive

Kind regards

Apart from museum pieces, they will all go through the shredder....
