110 GS - Some type of bird?
« on: October 03, 2017, 06:10:34 AM »
On the rear passenger side quarter panel I have the following logo. It is raised and appears painted over multiple times, but I did a rubbing of it (attached) for review and am curious if anyone can make it out? It appears to have bird's legs and feathers/wings but I can't quite make out what it is and think part of it may be missing. Any input?

I'm sure I've seen this on the forum before.
I think it's a pelican with it's wings spread, and a tin battle helmet on its head.

Greg.

I've been looking back through posts but it may have been on the REMLR thread on the old AULRO forums.
I think it may have had a sort of canvas satchel across its chest with a strap around its neck.

I've looked for pelican unit insignia to no avail, so if anyone comes across a more legible one I'd appreciate a look. I don't want to take this off, but would like to see what bits are missing to maybe restore it. Thank you.

Is it possible this may be a 2nd Cavalry Regt. (2CAV) badge instead? look low and it appears to have a spear like protrusion coming from the talons?

I did find this pelican (attached) but it doesn't seem to match what is on the truck. Input?

Thank you! I can't see the pelican in it, but am glad you know what it is and your help is appreciated.

Here's my dodgy MSPaint touched up version.

The yellow is the beak/throat pouch outline.
Can't recall if it's a message pouch across its chest or the shield from a coat of arms.

Greg.

Thanks Mate! At least my non-creative self can now see it more clearly. Much appreciated.
