Unimog 6X6 wrecker/tow truck.
« on: September 06, 2017, 09:03:16 AM »
I am interested in any info on the Unimog 6X6 tow truck wreckers, there is one at Minto in poor shape that needs a lot of work done to it to get it road worthy.
Does anyone know how many the ADF has?
Pretty much, if you have any worthwhile info on them or any pics or documents about them, then I'm interested.
Regards,
Mike.

G'day Al,
I will try and find out the ARN.

The Unimog is incomplete and was apparently not originally meant to be taken to Minto when it was, somehow the ADF/Army/whatever stuffed up and it got sent there and has been sitting ever since.....

My understanding is, talking to those supposedly "in the know" was that the Army took parts off it to enact a field repair to one that was "out bush" and the Army couldn't wait for parts from Germany.

Apparently the one that was repaired (with this vehicles parts) had a hell of a job getting to where it had to go & an even worse time recovering whatever....

That's what I've been told about this Mog, if anyone has any more info, I'd love to know the full story.

From having a bit of a sticky beak a few times, it appears that some of the things that need attention are:
*Both winch cables replaced (they're not there).
*CTIS fixed for the RHF tyre.
*A fair few hydraulic fittings and hoses need to be sourced/manufactured.
*Rear axle parking brake actuators fixed or replaced (parts missing).
*Pneumatic system needs fixing (apparently valves/hoses are missing and AFM cannot get the info on the specs required from either Merc/HV/Army/Germany)....
*Passengers seat missing.
* And a fair few other items that I cannot remember at this time.

AFM has requested info off the Army a number of times about this particular model Unimog, but no relevant info has been provided at this date.

I would assume that the vehicle has been rebuilt previously, but it has obviously done a fair amount of work with the way the winch drums, cable guides and various other componentry appear worn.

The current Klms on the speedo are (if I remember correctly) 1251.

 Mike.

Just another thing about MOG wreckers/tow trucks at Minto....

I've read numerous times on different forum pages and Facebook posts that AFM use one of these at Minto to move immobilised vehicles around....

That is bull****.

They use a standard MOG with chains and or straps or a big forklift to move the vehicles, not a wrecker variant as the wrecker there is.....wrecked.

I'm on my phone & can't make out the ARN in your pic, but the one at Minto is in far worse condition than that.
It will be sold as is where is.
Lots & lots of parts missing from it.
It is definitely going to be in the October auction.

Um, in English what does that actually mean?
Does it mean that she's got a bad case of herpes and to stay away?
Or is she worth seriously looking at?
Any more info on it?
Mike.

The log book only has it at JLU queensland and 3 CSSB as Sixty says. Doesn't look like it strayed very far.
Do you have specific knowledge Alan ?
