Went and had a look at this 1964 workshop. Sold at Moorebank in 1991. Working on a farm since.

Sorry bud.

I'm being told the 67 on the tac plate refers to 1st Aviation Regt.

Here's a photo of 171 Air Cav within 1st Aviation Regt from 1987 showing 3 S2a workshops but the ARNs are hard to read.
I can make out ( left, camo hardtop ) 112-?.., unknown at rear, and right hand side 114-27? maybe.

Well, with thanks to 2short, 113 769 now has a new home.

I have always been after an Aviation regiment vehicle, so I am really pleased with this.

After auction in It went to a farm in Central Victoria, after going through Four Wheel Drives in Blackburn Victoria.

Very original, it looks like it was looked after on the farm, the farmer is a Land rover fan.

It has a few tradie mods left over from service, does anyone know what this is?  Inverter? It is connected to a rheostat in the cab, there is also a canon plug socket next to the map light.

It has quite a few 1980s - 1990s stencils, I did a bit of light sanding and found this marsupial.....

As far as I can tell, it is the 161 Recce flight possum, so that means it was probably with that unit at Holsworthy.

From what I can see, there is almost no rust, the bulkhead is surprisingly good.

I am actively looking for a front cab canvas,   if anyone has a spare, let me know!

The platform body has a few dings, amazingly MOSS, who made the lashing hooks are still in business, so I have ordered 40 new ones to replace the damaged / missing ones.

After that, I guess I am after some poles, a rear canvas, etc...  I really wish that I had never sold my workshop trailer with full CES back in the 90's, but there you go....

Anyway, if anyone has seen any in service photos or any other info, I would like to hear!

Cheers,

Mike.

Thanks Mick!

Very pleased with it.

I think one of the doors is from another vehicle, the drivers door has A2  and Triangle stenciled on it, and the passenger door has A3. (and the possum underneath)

Can you remind me what the A2 / A3 mean again?

Is it a unit callsign?

Hi Mick ,

Yeah unit / sub unit marking, I would reckon it's the original door.

Cheers,

Mick

Thanks Justin,

Very happy with it.

Last week I went for a road trip to see the farmer who purchased it after it was auctioned.  Like most farmers, nothing ever gets thrown away, so I was a bit hopeful we would find the canopy frame for the cab. We managed to find the tool holders and some other bits which was good. No canopy frame though, not for want of trying.  Hopefully he can dig it up somewhere, I need to replace the civilian hardtop!

From what I can see Mick, it is.

It has the forward canopy bow with the door seal brackets, and the the rearmost canopy bow from a LWB / SWB vehicle tied together with a short tube on either side.

Here is a photo I grabbed from the internet showing how it works....

Some workshop vehicles had a rear cab bow with 2 horizontal rails welded across it, but from what I have seen, but they were not all like this.

One for the experts I reckon?
