« on: July 20, 2016, 08:28:35 PM »
looking for info on 51 FNQR

not sure if the abbreviation is Far North Queensland ? (Rifles or Regiment).

The only  info I have found which may relate is from the Steven Taubert book Formation Signs .... (VUS '82)

"51 Indep Rifle Coy RQR" with unit serial 59

or am I completely off track?

Hi Diana,

51 FNQR is a regional force surveillance unit and like the SASR LRPV  they're vehicles most probably wouldn't be patrolling with unit TAC Plates (Juddy / Dave have mentioned)  As Rod stated it is part of the 6th Brigade and a unit making up the 2nd Division (Ares)

I'll get you the TAC number - wait out 😊

Cheers,

Mick

They wouldn't have had tac plates (coloured) but wouldn't they still have the unit serial number (low Vis)?

When they were 51 Independent Rifle Coy they had the serial 59.  Would that have changed when they were reestablished as 1 FNQR (egiment)?

(I guess I could ask the Pres (Lt Col) of our armoured vehicle club, 51 FNQR is  under his responsibility.  But I feel a little awkward hitting him for that sort of info.)

Hi Diana,

the number 59 sounds right and the units vehicles may have had tac plates coloured or otherwise but the patrol vehicles would not have had any unit markings other than a callsign I would imagine.

I do know the SASR did not use tac plates / call signs, or other on the LRPV`s and some of they`re base squadron vehicles did have coloured tac plates fitted.

Just my two cents.

Cheers,

Mick

One of our Tablelands Military Vehicle Club members is ex-Sgt 51FNQR. If you wish I can ask him: in that case do you have any other questions to put to him?

They wouldn't have had tac plates (coloured) but wouldn't they still have the unit serial number (low Vis)?

Op-sec tactics included denial of us much info as possible to the enemy. In my tone there were a few vehicles with their call signs painted on the door (mainly alpha coy- 12a etc) but away from BHQ it wasn't common.

Under his responsibility? Don't know what this means? Is he the current CO?

No not CO, he's part of 2Div HQ based at Randwick Barracks and 51FNQR have a chain of command line to him.  Don't  know exactly what that responsibility entails.

Non Comms are always better with this info. It wold be great if you could ask. 50-422 is an FFR not RFSV so don't know what sort of patrol activity (if any) it would have been used for.

Hi Diana,

Fair call , I'd wack on the TAC plates then for sure. Hot Rod has the 2 Div decals so there's a start.

I'll chase up a mate of mine to confirm unit number.

Cheers,

Mick
