Canberra campfire #3
« on: July 17, 2015, 08:22:35 PM »
:)  time for another Canberra area campfire.

I got a txt message from a member who regretably missed out on the last one...

Had a short meeting today at Wayne's and the three of us agreed to re-shuffle the date of the campfire to better suit.  8)

Sunday Aug 2nd

Last time we began about 3pm but this time I am thinking we could go up to Mount Coree trig. This would be a "most of the day" event and then we come home after the fireside "dinner" perhaps.

We can meet up at Casuarina Sands.

I must buy another bag of firewood - I'll look for another cheap bag close to date at the servo. :)

Wayne sent me a video link. The video's asian-4wd-operator uses low range (don't know why, there is a 2wd vehicle seen in the video) - the track to our previous meetings at Bullen hill was steeper and much more eroded/bumpy.

Turn the volume down, there's nothing worth hearing. The thing to note about the video is the weekend 4wd traffic and that finding a spot for a campfire could be tricky...

No issue going up to Mt Coree in high range - even in a 2wd for most of the year.  I have seen a Mazda 626 station wagon parked at the last turn 50m from the top in the past.

Forecast for the weekend is positive. ie., no minus C mornings.

Spoke with a workmate re top of Mt Coree. Drives bushfire trucks up there. Theres a carpark fence sort of thing and plenty of space  for campfire on the other side of the fence.

While the top of Mt Coree is very exposed - windy, cold with a high wind chill factor - great views though.  If you want something more sheltered after the trip up to the top there is the Coree Campground at the base of the mountain on the western side just off Two Sticks Road - toilets, tables etc

Looking forward to Sunday.
Weather? Apparently its going to be a cloudy weekend and won't be able to make up its mind, sunny showers or something.

Anyway, the time to meet up on Sunday is -open to changes if need be- what about 11AM?
