QLD Roadworthy and Rego Costs
« on: February 01, 2015, 04:31:47 PM »
Do you require a different type of certified  person for a roadworthy on a 6x6?

And what would a 6x6 rego cost for 6 months.

When I registered mine I got a roadworthy and a modification plate fitted to reduce the GVM to 4495kg. When I presented the documentation to Qld Transport they had to do some paperwork to have the VIN entered on their database as military vehicles do not appear there - that took overnight. When I went back in the next day and re presented the the paperwork they told me that I didn't even need a roadworthy certificate as the vehicle was "new" as far as they were concerned having never been on their database. All very easy from here on, Now registered as a light commercial with a GVM of 4500kg or less. All up including CTP $1124.50 for 12 months so 6 months would be a little more than half of that amount. Don't forget that you have to pay duty on the purchase price as well on top of the rego cost. :)

I have a cargo 6x6 and didnt need to haul 2t of cargo. So i got a springworks to pull out some rear suspension leaves so that an auto engineer would certify and issue a mod plate for reduced gvm under 4500kg. I had to get a roadworthy. This process saves you having to register it as a heavy vehicle and allows you to drive it on a normal license. Saves a bit of money and hassle in the long run.

Why did you have to get spring leaves pulled out - I got mine certified for the same weight without having to do any modifications.

As I now have a double cab 6x6 to put on the road, I just wanted to confirm the process

Does the chap who comes to carry out the roadworthy fit a new mod plate? and can any roadworthy person/company do this

And if as you say you don't require a roadworthy for a new as unregistered car, who can cert the mod plate.

You have to get an engineer who is approved by Qld TMR to do the mod paperwork for the reduced GVM, he will do the mod plate and affix to the vehicle. I would check with your local TMR office about the roadworthy but I was told when I registered mine that because they have never been on the TMR database they are considered a new registration and don't require a roadworthy cert but I got one anyhow as I didn't want to be stuffed around if there was any doubt about it.

I would say he is going to have the GVM reduced to make it cheaper to rego in Qld. Bloody dear rego here if you leave the GVM at 5600.

If its not on there system, how would they know what the GVM is, I could say what ever I like?

Are all 6x6 the same GVM?

Not that easy mate, the vehicle compliance plate has it stamped onto it. Yes afaik all 6X6 are 5600. Did you find some ANR1534 rims?   I thought that you had them in stock!!!

But they don't need to see the vehicle correct?

Rim, new ones yes but not old ones, I need old ones, same as fitted to the 300ti1 130.

They didn't need to see mine. I do have 6 of those rims here but not sure whether I want to sell them yet. A toss up whether to use them or wolf tubeless ones on the 6x6. Haven't decided yet.
