Hi Everyone,

Anyone from near or around Melbourne travelling to Ironfest ?

Looking for a way to get some parts to a REMLR member up north. Any help appreciated.

Cheers,

Mick

It was good to see Vietnam era being represented, for too long it seemed that the re enactors demonstrated everything from the Vikings to WWII but nothing later.

The LLH Vietnam era display was a good effort.  :)

Was sooooo busy that my camera/phone never came out of my pocket, I was coordinating/providing comms, providing First Aid to the AAVA team and Army ring-ins as well as driving the WWII M5 halftrack.

There were all manner of other cameras present though, try the "World of Tanks" and "Wargaming" sites as well as the Ironfest Facebook page.

AAVA had 2 Perentie FFR and a Perentie Senior Commander present along with 3 Cooks bodyworks 750kg trailers and a Haulmark PT1-1.2 trailer.

You could take Paul Britton's image from last year and replace the FV102 in the background with a FV432 you get the idea of one image.

or his

and replace the No.5 in the background with the PT1-1.2

"Contact Front" were supposed to be present but the Sd.Kfz.251 (OT-810) developed clutch problems before loading in Brisbane so never arrived in Lithgow.

Oops, it should read 1 perentie FFR, 1 perentie Senior Commander and a perentie FFP (fitted for Pugs) although sometimes it was FWP and it plus the other vehicles were all FWR. a mix of RT-524, PRC-77 and F3 sets

Thank you Diana. Ironfest 16 was one of the best times in my life!
Considering i only had 1 month to form a new Vietnam reenactment group SRN with LLH,  i also was flat out with the 2 week resto on the SIIA posted on here in the shed section.
I think we did an excellent job of setting up having been given so little time to prepare for Ironfest.  Contact front have been doing it for many yrs. Same as another, Vietnam living history in VIC.
We are fast growing with another lines tent already aquired and a nam era International Acco 4x4.
We will be back next year bigger and better than 2016. All we need now is someone in armour to bring a M113, use of the theatrical 60's and someone with a UH1-H Iroquois ;)

Looks like a great day and good to see some enthusiastic re-enactors having a go. One little point re Tac signs. The Unit sign (86) is always displayed on the drivers  (off) side whereas the formation sign (skippy) is always on the passengers (near) side, regardless of whether the vehicle is viewed from the rear or front. You will obviously sometimes see cases where they are worn incorrectly but that is usually because someone involved simply didn't know  or couldn't care less. Keep up the good work!
Regards
Glen

I'm assuming you're talking about a  Mk3 Inter (I'll get flamed if I suggest ACCO is only for civilian trucks) the Mk4 didn't go to Vietnam.

The M113 is unlikely, but its family member in the form of an AAVA M548 TLC is a possibility/likelihood (the Yanks used them in SVN but I don't think Australia did).  As for the Iroquois plans are already in hand for one based out of Sydney, just depends if it's on duty for bushfire support.

Were the tent sections 14 x 14?  If yes Hugh Davis in South Oz makes steel frame kits for them.

I don't know if you're interested but I could loan you some Vietnam era gear, you'd have run down to Western Sydney to pick it up.  I'm thinking of a RC-292 (40 foot VHF antenna mast) a 10KVA gen set (VW powered) or a 24V charging set and I could loan vou a spare PRC-77 with back pack etc.  All to be returned of course.

Diana
