Getting vehicles ready for the 25th April
« on: March 13, 2015, 04:35:48 PM »
As always when an event comes along, you have to check that all vehicles are running as good as is possible, but something always gets in the way, the Workshop L/R fitted with a Zenith carb didn't want to play the game last weekend, so today I revisited the carburetor issue on my S2A 109 Lightweight Workshop vehicle, I have to have it running properly before the 25th of April (Anzac day) this time it wouldn't run at all, so I suspected the ball was stuck under the petrol pump as I couldn't see fuel being sprayed down the throat when the throttle was opened, so off it came

it was piddling rain this morning so the job had to be done in the shed, as the Land Rover has way too much canvas on it.
The carburetor was dismantled, then out with my small surface plate to rub down all the mating surfaces so that they are relatively flat

I suppose a few of us have been down this road before, all sprayed with carb/cleaner, email sent to Nick @ Blanchards for replacement gaskets etc , now I just have to wait approx. 1 week for the bits to arrive, cheers Dennis  :(
psw the ball under the pet/pump was stuck, the pet/pump came out with no fuss either, which is unusual,,.

Well a long winded reply, I ended up buying a new carburetor and fitting it after Anzac Day, but the problem was far deeper than just the carburetor. The fuel tank had it's share of muck in the bottom, so it was removed and cleaned out, then a coat of 'Red-Kote' liquid applied, allowed to dry, then all re-assembled.
I have modified the original fuel line by putting an inline fuel filter using some of the old line and new rubber fuel line, it is all OK now, no leaks, starts straight up from cold, now just need some days when the weather clears a little, as I don't like taking this Land Rover out in the rain

anyway it will just have to wait, cheers Dennis  :)

Thanks for the positive + comments, I can clearly remember the thousands of hours bringing the Land Rover back to life as it was, cheers Dennis  :)

Sadly no film of the test drive, I haven't a clue what I've done to my Go-Pro, it was working as I saw the seconds ticking over in the display area on the camera, anyway after moving 6 vehicles & a No5 trailer, the Wksp was moved out of the shed, fuel added, and away it went. I drove it about 4-5k's around the streets, it did everything it should have, then it was reversed back into it's position in the shed, a very trying exercise moving all of them about, especially when I had to start one on the crank handle, anyway cheers Dennis  :)
