Would the bend in the exhaust pipe be for going through water to create a air pocket in the "S" bend incase it stalls... obviously a Land Rover does not need this as they never stop!
Lots...............

Thats quite possible, especially as the top part of the loop is a lot higher.

Thanks for the pics. Um, when we got their submarines we stipulated some Australian work content. And ditto the Perentie. And ditto the Mogs (maybe, I don't know) ... its seems its always been that way on largish taxpayer outlays. Is it a stipulation on this G.erman Wagon?

Soft... not the Dismounted Infantrymen, but the leadership... perhaps.

I used the correct nomenclature because 'diggers' is out of date nowadays.

We were warned by the OC about individual legal action if we conducted unauthorised digging of any kind, especially hootchie drains. Sandbags were okay however, on a temporary basis. Unilateral military disturbance of the environment, without permission from, or reference to, the appropriate environmental stakeholders, could lead to erosion during rainfall and upset the local catchment with sediment and runoff. Uh huh. Digs can get prosecuted for digging.
Sadly, the above is true.

It's a sad day indeed when the Australian Army spends more time and money on environmental protection, hazardous material detection or remediation and workplace safety, than it seems to spend on actual soldier training.

One reserve I was talking to did a course on the minimi machine gun, because of Defence budget cuts there was a limited supply of amunition for the courses.  So half the course got to fire the weapon and the other half didn't fire anything.  But they passed the whole course.

Now it may be a soldiers myth, but if true, sending only partly trained soldiers is an inditement of the bureaucracy that allows it.

I did see that Gwagen booklet recently when searching for something else!

Yes, most defence contracts did stipulate some level of Australian Content, but I have not heard if this phase of project overlander also stipulates that.  Might have to check the DMO website.

Richard,

The Aust content for a project can be averaged over both acquisition and support contracts. It is not uncommon for acquisition to have very little - particularly if Military Off The Shelf (MOTS) is desired - but this can be made up for in the support contract.... which typicaly employs more locals over the life of type, when compared to the acquisition.

The fact that assembly happened in Australia and it seems that the additional body work was also produced here this would also be part of the Au content.
