The military tyre thread

I thought I'd start this thread so people can post up where they found military type tyres for their vehicles.

I've been searching a lot for tyres recently. White walled for classic cars etc. The searches usually take me to "Antique Tyres" in Melbourne. I see this company at classic car displays and the usual response to enquiries about bar tread tyres is "We've only got 6.00 x 16 bar treads mate."
I'm after some 12.00 x 20 bar treads so I was surprised to find Antique Tyres now have 7.00 x 16, 7.50 x 16 and 9.00 x 16 bar treads.
I'm going to price the 9.00 x 16's for the 101.
I'll keep at them for the 12.00 x 20's.

I have also found the prices at Antique Tyres are quite high and have been able to find other sources  at a much cheaper price however if Antique Tyres are the only place then I guess there are no options.

I also found that MRF have a good range of bar treads and sand grips at a good price.

I bought some tyres off this guy (Noel) 0408 675 850 (he is a  mechanic/tyre retailer so no problems to put up his number).

I bought some steel treks and they where near new, I also bought some original Olympic Trojan bar treads off him and they where very very good for age and near new - about $ 100 each.

Hi To All
I purchased 5 Firestone NDTs from Universal Tire Co https://www.universaltire.com. They will not export direct to Australia as they supply to Vintage Rip Off in Melbourne. So you do as I did and get yjem through the back door. I had them shipped to a US address loaded in to a container and shipped to Australia. There is several companys that specialise in doing this one that I have been recomended is USA ti AUS http://www.usatoaus.com/ if you look at thier web site you will see that it is quite reasonable to ship goods over. When I purchased my tyres they cost me $126 per tyre.

Just as an FYI...  I bought 6 brand new Goodyear 12.00x20 bar tread from L.W. Vass in England.  They handled everything I needed including a freight company to Perth.. The only hiccup was the actual import company in Perth that let me down on telling me they were actually on the wharf.
I see on their website that they handle a lot of the army type treads.  Have a look & dont be afraid to give them an email..  vass.co.uk.

Not sure how organised we can get ourselves, but here is one seller on an import site from China.

Indicative price is $40-80 / per SET - minimum order 50 sets. $10 - $20 each...Will they be any good?
If so, surely we can commit to 200 tyres? Ill take 5....
Aparently we may even have a say in the markings as well... so maybe REMLR brand?

I have a contact who imports several containers a month from China so Iwe could get that sorted.
The same guy has a wharehose south of Sydney and already does all that with the goods he imports so perhaps he could receive the container and dispatch the tyres internally for a fee?
Might be worth doing the exercise and see what the delivered price per tyre will be after freight, fees, duty, postage?
Alternatively, if we had enough interest he might be persuaded to add the tyres to his inventory, we'd pay a bit more but then no risks?

I have used VASS they are very good.

As for this China stuff, seems like a good idea, of course theres going to be at least another 25/40% to add to the tyre price.  But lets get some costings and take it from there.

I would also suggest and this is very important a sample before committing to 200 plus tyres, if you  are going to purchase that many tyres, the supplier should be happy to send a tyre for evaluation, be that for free or someone here pays the air freight..
