I used to drive a Hilux for work a few years ago,  comfortable but like driving a car ~ all the fun taken out of it.

I now drive an Isuzu Dmax so isuzu engine just like my perentie so at least I can imagine a connection!

I can understand SAS using hilux's,  the more you make youself obvious the more you blend in.
Cheers

This is a general section, discussions of all sorts are allowed.  If you aren't interested, don't read and don't comment, although in this case we seem to have moved somewhat away from the original topic LOL

UKSF (and others) have been using Toyotas and the like in Afghanistan since 2001. At one stage the brits were camo-ing them up for the TA SAS units to use.
I assume they were previously purchased as needed though so, assuming this information is accurate, it may be indicative of their intentions in the region if they are now equipping them with a new fleet.
As much as we all love our Landy's the Hilux is a tough vehicle too and far more suitable for keeping a low profile and for servicing in that part of the world.
I would be interested to know whether they are keeping them in outwardly civi guise or giving them the full mission kit makeover.

Thats a very Interesting picture.

Those 110 HCPU have a hell of a lot of gear on board. The Extra cab looks a little light compared to it....

Could be a rendezvous between two elements. 110 looks kitted out for long range patrol/recon while the Toyota looks to be set up for fire support.
Either way I'm surprised they didn’t remove the doors on the Toyota's. I wonder if they would still be structurally sound without them?

Hi all,

Maybe if the Hilux's were enlisted to blend in with the local vehicle movements, removing the doors would defeat the purpose ?

So would painting them in camo and mounting a Milan. Yet they've clearly done that as seen in the image above.

Thats why I mentioned I was curious to see what they had planned for them. Low profile or full mission kit.

Well I reckon the A/C isn't as effective then :-)
