These are original artworks based various photographs and descriptions. They may not be commercially reproduced without my expressed approval.

Very nice work, both are correct - the first was the green 'Roo version.

Someone who knew the designer says the 1ATF Roo design was a lift from the Aussie Half Penny coin which has the Roo facing to the right. On the "whole" penny the Roo faces the left. and thats on the red Roo version. And i found that out using google: http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=122093
Of course in July '66 when the Tac was done, the penny and half-penny had been junked 5 months earlier in favour of the one cent.

Catalogue of unit/regimental logos
« Reply #3 on: October 15, 2014, 03:25:57 PM »
Do we yet have a catalogue of the regimental logos painted onto vehicles?

We often discuss them but I'm not aware of a single catalogue of them.

17 Const have the Little Bear will fix it from the 3M Bear Brand Tape of the 1960s and that remains in current use today.
(early) (later)
17 Const Workshop RAEME have the Yogi Bear with the spanner over his shoulder,
16 AD regiment had the bilby with the Redeye shoulder launched missile (complete with singed tail)
School of Armour have the mailed fist.

How about we use this thread in the forum to get a pic of any confirmed logos then they can be put on the web site page later.
I can edit this thread as the title fits, confirmed in this thread and members can still put up their unconfirmed or unclear logos for the forum to think and pass suggestion on?

I have edited or removed a few of the first posts here from now please post up logos unit or regimental when confirmed try and get a good clears shot of where on the veh it is and size.

if you are not sure then still post as a separate thread so members can discuss and comment. ;D

Reposted from another thread; this Perentie had 1RAR logos sprayed on the TAC plate holders one side, "11" sprayed on the other. It is wearing the "A" Team logo and a palm tree.

Richard's comments were:
"Croc under a palm tree is the old 1 Armed Bde CMF (ww2 from memory)

11 Div (WW2) has a palm tree)

Lion under a palm was used in singapore as well."

I think something along the suggested lines would be great.

But at the outset I think we should consider our brief for the project.  In particular if we should focus on the logos in the era of Land Rover i.e. from 1948 through to the present.  Or for the whole of the Australian military, if we do that, it's a huge job and may tread on the toes of brother forums like MLU who focus on WWII vehicles etc.

No problem listing them with the variations over time and their historical antecedents.

Could it be a ram like on the door of mine? Which is 8/9 RARs 'stan' mascot, also based at enoggera where mine spent its entire service life

These are logos of the RAEME association.  The logos, do not seem to be the graphisc used on vehicles, but use the same cartoon character.

http://www.rar.org.au/documents/8-9RARHistoryComplete.pdf

Fantastic reading - Chosen excerpts;

In the middle of 1970 it was decided that 9 RAR required a unit Mascot. A Merino Ram was chosen because of the important role that the animal had played in Australia's history and prosperity.

...

Private John Macarthur I was presented to the Battalion on 12th March 1971 by the nephew of Mr Collison, PTE McPhee, a member of the Battalion. The Ram was immediately accepted into the ranks and acquired the nickname of 'Stan'. John Macarthur I was by all accounts a scoundrel with a long list of charges, including striking a superior, conduct to the prejudice, resisting an escort, etc. He also developed a liking for tobacco which he preferred to chew than smoke and he formed an intimate relationship with a fire hydrant within the Battalion area.

Stan I reached the rank of Corporal before he was retired on 8th August 1978 after 9 years of solid service

...

Stan II was soon promoted to Lance Corporal but later reduced in rank to Private for wilful damage to his barracks. Stan II was tragically murdered

...

Stan III's reign was short and he died of injuries received during a duel with another Ram over a Lady's affection

...

Stan IV is by far the biggest mascot yet and was promoted to Lance Corporal on 31st October 1988 and has performed the duties of a junior NCO admirably.

...

All Officers are required to carry a shilling and woe betide the Officer who can't produce his 'Rams Head' shilling when called for.
I'm not completely useless.. I'm missing some of the pieces

Ah hah! We have a match, I think? (Note Marvin's spanner).

16 AD Regt were certainly a previous owner of my 6x6, as recorded in the GM120 and on a lot of the CES.
