Ah nice pick up Mick.

Do you know of a supplier for deep dish series rims ?

Cheers,

Mick
What did Dave use on his 110? I thought they were 130 rims. Could be wrong.I'll have to ask him.

This is a gem NOT
https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/freshwater/cars-vans-utes/landrover-1966-series2/1141759424
methinks the seller was done over big time by the 'restoration guy' from Adelaide, ? I wonder how they got it passed for rego
with no light over the rear rego plate?? anyway cheers dennis
NSW Rego thinks its a 1988 model, it could very possibly be a very late suffix B for 1966 but more likely 1964 or 1965.

I wonder which Land Rover model had the straight cable wipers with the motor on the right below the screen in front of the driver.

Hey Dennis,

Are those deep dish rims? Where do you buy those type of rims ?
<snip>
Mick

What do you mean "Deep Dish" rims?

There a variety of Series Land Rover rims, 4.5", 5", 5.5", and 6.5" the 110 Perentie add the Au only 6". None of the Land Rover rims are tubeless safety rims.

In the 5.5" there are the original +ve offset rims which continued for all Au production and a neutral offset rim produced in the UK which we called "English rims".

In the forward control the 6.5" rims came on two offsets, the original Neutral offset and a later -ve offset on the SIIB (the 1 ton had a rim similar to the early F/C type which are also similar offset to the early 130 rim)

Hi Diana,

I think when I refer to " deep dish" I must be referring to the different offset ?  A couple of questions answered might help me :

Can you tell me what the offset is for standard military rims is ? ,

What is offset for perentie rims, and

What offset rims should I look for when trying to get the ' deep dish"  series rim look ?

Cheers,

Mick

I can't tell you the offset, but the AYG8038 (Series III Ex-Military and CKD) and AYG8108 (Perentie) rims seem to differ only in the offset - same centre, same rim.

I'd say your best bet for "deep dish" rims for a Series would be ANR1534s (early 130 rims). I believe these are a +20.6mm offset, on a 6.5" rim.

I have these "deep dish" rims on one of my Workshop projects. They are Landy centres fitted to 15" (yes fifteen) rims.

Yes it is/was possible to have 15 inch rims fitted to Land Rover centres because the drop centre used on many modern rims is shallower than those on the original Landy rims, meaning the OD of the Landy centre is almost exactly the same as the ID of the 15" rim blank.  Back in the 1970's the only way we were able to get 10 inch wide tyres like the US made Gates was to run 15 X 8 rims.

I need to redo this diagram and update it with exact offsets but you get the idea of the rim profiles and offsets.  (All rims are 16" and it excludes the 6" ROH rim used on the 110 Perentie which is also a positive offset rim.)

The difference between the AYG8038 SIII and the AYG8108 Perentie is that the SIII rim is 5.5" while the Perentie is 6" (and an orphan in that it was only used on the Australian 110 etc and not on any civilian or foreign military Landy)

Both the AYG8108 and the 6" rims on trailers (including the replacement rims used on No.5 trailers behind Perenties) are made by ROH.

P.S. AFAIK the AYG8308 is the same positive offset as the 272309 rim used on series II and IIa Landies. The main difference is the raised ring around the PCD on the SIII and that the stud holes slightly larger to accommodate the 16mm studs.

Hi Diana,

So is it okay to mix these rims ?  Series 3 and Perentie ? Given its just width size being the difference ?

I'm learning lots here 😊👍

Thank you

It would probably be best if you didn't mix rims and or tyres, but is very important that you don't mix on the same axle particularly on the front steer axle.  So if you have to mix rims do it by pairs.

I know that when a KVE member was returning from Temora in a SIIa and blew a 205 16 tyre with only a 7.50 16 spare I lent him the 7.50 16 spare off my SIII and he ran them both on the rear of the SIIA

As for the 5.5 and 6 inch mixing again best if you don't but if you have to do it on the rear.

PS remember that given the same offset a 6" rim has 0.25" difference to the 5.5" rim on the inside and similarly 0.25" on the outside.

Hi Diana,

Got it 👍

No I wouldn't have had a mix on one axle if I did do it, it would same on each axle.

I have a much better understanding now.

Thank you.

Cheers,

Mick

I need to redo this diagram and update it with exact offsets but you get the idea of the rim profiles and offsets.
A great reference that diagram, and I look forward to your update, but here's a little help for now. All of the 6.5" Defender rims are the SAME 20.6mm positive offset, but the centre disc of the ANR1534 is much more dished to give the appearance of negative offset, compared to the flatter disc of the ANR5593 and ANR4583.

Quote from: Diana Alan
PS remember that given the same offset a 6" rim has 0.25" difference to the 5.5" rim on the inside and similarly 0.25" on the outside.
And in the same way, a 6.5" rim with a +20.6mm offset has the inner edge in the same position as a 5.5" rim with +33.3mm offset (and therefore chassis clearance and turning lock). It is the outside edge that is moved out 1", and the centreline of the tyre tread is 1/2" further out and overall track increased by 1" (which is the maximum allowable in most states (or 25mm, if that's different enough for the nit pickers) without Engineering Certification). All of the 6.5" Defender rims are dimensionally legal for the Perentie, but whether they are rated/approved is another kettle of fish (or THREAD actually).
