110-447 'Pre-Production Gunbuggy'
« on: June 22, 2012, 10:30:44 PM »
This 1961 photo shows the rear end of 110-412, a pre-Gunbuggy conversion. Unfortunately, the front end cannot be seen.

This photo of 110-447 (another pre-Gunbuggy conversion Series 2) shows the front end in detail.

The barrel clamp can be seen sitting in the bonnet mounted spare wheel. The two windshields can also be seen. The 'basic' drivers side shield appears to be made from simple tubing with a sheet of perspex strapped to it. The passenger shield appears to be a purpose made screen probably taken from another type of vehicle. The tailgate has been removed to accommodate the 106mm RCL.

This Land Rover has the same triangle sign on it's door as 110-412. The front RHS TAC plate displays the number '107' whereas 110-412 has '103'.

Apart from these minor changes, this Land Rover appears to be a standard Series 2.

110-447...88...1959 Series 2...6005B...Truck, Utility, 1/4 Ton, GS, Fitted For Rifle 106mm...151909164...143900450...750x16...Qld. Fitted For Rifle noted, but struck out?...11.10.68

do we have any idea what happened to either of these? eg were they put back into general pool etc?

110412 appears to have standard front (from what we can see)
and any idea what that is strapped to left rear of tailgate opening on 110412..

with 110447, do we know what the bar is fitted along the side of the tub?

niether appears to have a scrub bar..
no bonnet catches on 447 but cannot recall if these were on a CR...

Thanks for the photos

G'day Tommy  :)

I think that the external bar could be the strengthing bar for the 106 round bracket/holders which may have been mounted down the side.

I also remember going to a D/\D auction in Brisbane a few years ago(15+) at which there was a pallet of Gunbuggy windscreens which did not even attract a bid, when I returned to pickup my purchases the next day I asked if I could purchase then or when they would come up again, only to be told that they went to the dump that afternoon with other unsold stuff :'(

The interesting thing was that they were complete with lower brackets and were of 2 types, thin standard type glass, and thick "Armour Plate" which I was told was ex RAAF aircraft windscreen glass

cheers
