Quick question.. Did any gunbuggies tow?

I was speaking with a bloke who swears up and down that when he was in Vietnam there was a gunbuggy
that was used for towing a no. 5 trailer on a number of occassions., this included towing a genny trailer (no. 5 with genny)
and a water trailer at different times moving things about.

I cannot recall seeing a photo of anything like that, I wouldnt dream of arguing with him as he has done the yards
for this not me. But very interested to see if there is a photo or if anyone knows if they were able to be used this way.

Well I suppose they could have been, I mean mechanically they are a normal rover.  The pintle is still fitted as well.

YES I have seen a photo of a GB with a pintle hook on it (but not towing a trailer in the photo), I'll have to rack my brains to remember where I saw the photo - I am contemplating putting one on my GB ad I suspect it had a pintle hook as well as the tab that locks in gun cleaner tube end cover would foul one of the legs on the stand off plate has been cut off a long time ago.....

I wonder if Tommy in WA could drag up a photo of a GB with the pintle hook

You may find the Dixon Bate NATO rotating pintle would foul on the recovery point.  The earlier non rotating type originally fitted to the SII may be a better fit.

I forgot to mention but mine has had the recovery point cut off as well....with Olive Drab painted over so happened in service

Both Numpty's and mine have had a civilian towball/bar arrangement fitted to the bottom of the chassis.



It most certainly will be removed.

They were not designed or built with a pintle, but anything is possible after issue, of course. They were overloaded as it was, let alone adding the weight of the pintle plus the drag of a trailer.

The civilian hitch was one of the first things I removed. I am contemplating fitting a pintle hitch to mine as it would allow me to tow the little camper trailer. That's when they're both complete of course.

The pintle hook was fitted by the previous owner Rob T, you may not know but he bought the gunbuggy for his own personal use whilst still in the green machine, he towed a No5 trailer around when mapping all the aboriginal sites within the Holsworthy range sites, well that's what he told me, cheers Dennis
