RASIGs Line Laying S3
« on: January 21, 2014, 09:31:03 PM »
Does anyone have photos of the S3 Linelaying Land Rover that would have been used by RA Sigs in the mid/late 1980's?

The Land Rover would have had a square tube frame above canopy that extended (and sloped down) over top of driving compartment. Mesh to sides and bottom of section over driving compartment. This extension was supported by square tube and mounted to rear end of top panel of guard.

Two ladder and two cable support brackets mounted off side of roof rack (both sides).

Cable reel holders mounted on tub wheel arches (each side) same as in photo of S2A cablelayer below.

I have one photo from the rear somewhere, but it is a slightly different configuration to the 2a one.  Even have photos of perentie ones somewhere.

That's the one Richard :). Thanks heaps. I wasn't sure whether there was a s3 line layer.

I just picked up copies of detailed plans for the rack that was installed on the line layer vehicle. The plans are dated 1987. The plans also detail the reel holders, seat etc that go in the tub. I have them in PDF form and will send them to you for archiving and placing on website.

page 33 of Battlegroup Leopard has an image (front 3/4) view of a line layer LR110. Don't remember if I took more shots of it at the time .... was a bit more engrossed with belting around the countryside in Leopards and Kiowas!
