LR = Loan Register, it was a trailer held in the vehicle loan pool as opposed to being allocated to a unit. Still done by the Army today, 100-150mm high Orange letters on the front of Pool vehicles.
Real Land Rovers have leaf springs and a canvas top

And I thought it was to tell the Navy types which vehicle to hook up to.

Will get a photo soon but I have a No. 5 trailer from the Auctions in Brisbane last year which has MP No. 13 on it and a stencil of a snarling wolfs head.  Any knowledge of the owning sub-unit ??  :o
