Some exciting documents have come into REMLR this week!

For the first time, we have some official confirmation of the numbers of vehicles and types built under a variety of contracts by land rover in the series 2 through to series 3 region.

Each contract appears to be listed, and how many of which types of vehicles were made precisely.  Even the 5 ambulances sent to NZ were listed, although it appears that they may have come back, but we will work on the details as time goes, and if more information shows up.

Another example, it details that 250 series 3's built for indonesia.  More information about the documents as I work through it all, but rest assured it will all appear online on the remlr website.

So fro example, one document running to 6 pages is a listing of Land Rovers produced for the department of Army dated 19th March 1963. The last sheet is dated 66, and all are in chronological order.

So:
March 59, 930 Command recon's ordered
August 59, 290 command recon's ordered
August 59, 2 series 2 ambulance
October 59, 2 topo surveys
June 60, 214 FFW's
June 60, 36 series 2 lwb chassis (machinery vehicle chassis)
October 60, 31+2 Ambulances
June 61, 47 S2 GS LWB
June 61, 211 S2 LWB GS (Cargo Carrier)

and so it goes on.  Well I think it is interesting anyway.

A fairly roundabout way is how they found me actually!

The information is courtesy of the BMC-Leyland Australia Heritage Group that they are researching and collecting information for a second book which is to be written about PMC.

Their first book was titled, Building cars in Australia : Morris, Austin, BMC and Leyland 1950 - 1975 which is supposed to be very good and a good read for anybody with an interest in what transpired over that period with the companies mentioned.

They were selling the first book at the Council of Motoring Clubs NSW meeting, thought about getting one but I couldn't justify spending the $ I had in my pocket on minis and P76 when there were Land Rover things I wanted that week.

Absolutely they were mockups even though some of the information was wrong.

The 88 was a SIIa post 1967 so if genuine should have had a LHS fuel tank.

The SIII had the tail lamps arranged vertically, if it were Au Mil they would have been horizontal, but the big giveaway was the rear fuel tank indicating it was UK build export or UK build CKD kit and not an Australian built body CKD.

I do know that there are a few Indonesians who like to get the unusual (to them) fittings like the Australian welded mesh grilles on the late SIIa.

Yes, I had a bit of a revamp of information a few times, but the auinfo-army page shouldn't be there any more, as i removed it as it was superseded as the information was moved into the index of each vehicle.  The stub must have been left behind by mistake, maybe my FTP program didn't remove it, not sure, but it's gone now.  Did you find a link to it on a page somewhere?

the information came from a book which is referenced at the top of the numbers page, and isn't reproduced because I don't have a copy, nor permission form the copyright holder to reproduce it.

Will add some links to the numbers page on the three relevant index pages, they certainly should appear there.
