Perentie Fuel gauge/tank/sender question
« on: November 27, 2013, 09:03:51 PM »
I have still not got to the bottom of the gauge not reading, switch is good, contacts on tank good, however i found to day that moving the wire that goes to the unit in the picture below, had a effect on the dial, could this be the issue? Its a pi like connector.

The "unit in the picture" is the fuel changeover solenoid. The switch on the dash operates this solenoid, which has a valve which selects fuel from either tank, and also a relay which diverts the gauge circuit to either tank sender. It sounds like the relay contacts might be playing up.

LRA have given it the part number AYG2840. I think it's an Australian sourced part rather than Rover UK.

Well, I was half right. It's not a Rover part, it's US made by a company called Pollak. The changeover valve originally fitted in the Perenties with twin tanks was P/N 42-149, but Pollak have superceded that to 42-159. The valve and the connector plug (42-203) are still available new.

In case anyone needs one the Pollak valves are available in Oz
https://www.scintex.com.au/products/pollak-fuel-valve-switch?utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=googlepla&variant=36776141123&gclid=CIyetIvO2NQCFZgEKgodCG4IGQ

As 303 G posts, it is cheaper if you want to get a spare to buy it from the US but I am a supporter of Oz business

It may be advisable for those of us that have dual tanks with this system to carry a spare if going into remote CSR-like areas, otherwise if the valve fails you're potentially stuck with using one tank. There are other fuel transfer methods but I'm thinking that $200 would give some convenience.

There are even cheaper clones around.

What got me thinking is one apparently genuine on gumtree atm for $375.

Sinter just sent me one $212 incl postage ex Brisbane, fitted perfectly. One thing to watch though is pipe sizes. The feed side is 10mm and the return side is 8mm, but the 10mm will easily clamp to the existing pipework, don't try fitting the 8mm to the 10mm barbs, split the pipe trying!

BTW, the genuine Pollak valves from Aus (Scintex) are now fractionally cheaper if purchased "click and collect" on ebay.
