Position of NATO 12 pin socket on SII Command Recon?
« on: October 17, 2013, 12:06:22 AM »
At the Menangle Steam Museum open day/s last weekend one participant had a very unmolested SII 88" CR.

A question arose about the position of the NATO socket.  On this vehicle it was mounted mid panel on the RHS rear panel.  Immediately below the socket was the Lucas number plate lamp.

The problem was that when you opened the cover flap on the trailer plug it fouled on the numberplate lamp preventing the plug being inserted into the socket.

What is the normal position of the NATO socket on a SII CR?

Did the NATO trailer plugs all have the cover flap?

Entering service they were positioned halfway down the rhs as per below

This was impracticable and it as soon moved down to the chassis and blanked over as per mine

Thanks a lot for that.

That original position makes far more sence, the current number plate light is where the "AMF" is on the number plate.  Will get back to the owner.

Also were all CR retrofitted with the "cookey cutter" bumperettes or only some?

Not all were as far as I know, but like brush bars, some seemed to get them, others did not.
