rear bench seats
« on: July 13, 2013, 02:00:56 PM »
Hello again all,

Thinking about getting inward facing rear bench seats put into my 110 FFR, does anyone know if this is legal? (with seat belts of course) And does it have any effect on the registration?

It looks like there may have been seats in there at some point, can anyone verify this?

Thanks,

Tom.

It would have had seats but no belts - they were for 'tactical moves' only.

You could buy some and install, but would need to strengthen the belt mounting points.
Also, it would be currently registered as a two seater, so would need to be re-inspected and re-registered as a 10? seater. My advice? Don't bother trying to convert it into a legal people carrier...

Back to my trauma and emergency training, I would seriously counsel against inward facing seats.  The risk of fatal or serious spinal injuries is significantly greater than with forward or rearward facing seats and not worth the risk.

It is the same reason that ComCare has banned the use of sideways facing seats for troops travelling on public roads.

Hi there

I need to clarify,  forward facing seats are strongly encouraged but not a legal requirement

If I remember correctly the rear seats were a factory option for the civilian 110 so should not be a problem for rego they can still be bought new from the UK. ;)

Be a little careful if you fit the extra seats in a 110 wagon, once you go over 8 seats it becomes a bus and may require 6 monthly inspections and additional green slip insurance costs.
