LRPV in Combat Arms article

Ok, here's the pic from the article in Combat Arms.
I was looking it over -- I can't figure out what this barrel thing is supposed to achieve (sitting in front of the shovel)..

It's the heavy leather cover for the astro navigation theodolite tripod.

Do you know whether it officially travelled / lived there or was it just shoved there that day?

The tripods (usually two) were assigned to one vehicle. Both sat across the top of the jerry cans as can be seen in the photo below.

btw Tommy, last week I spotted an old copy of the SASR book for sale, same paperback edition that I had years ago [ SAS - A Pictorial History of the Special Australian Air Service 1957 - 1997 by M.J. Malone OAM ], and the shop wants over $120. I have both the book and digital (CD) versions :D. Prices have gone up since I bought my copy of the book (many years ago).

Imprimatur has a magnificent collections of military books and manuals. Not cheap but they have what you want.
